Nowadays, American business culture places a strong emphasis on appearance. If we look good, we feel good, and are then better prepared for success. Confidence is beneficial in any business setting, and men want to both look and feel strong, healthy, and vibrant in the workplace as an investment in their career and personal success. Men care about their image, primarily because the notions persist that youthful looking men are more successful in business, better able to attract a mate, and even have better sex lives! Presently, the media and men’s magazines emphasize bulking up at the gym as the best way to improve men’s physical appearance with little to no emphasis on cosmetic procedures. While physical fitness is crucial to achieving our physical and aesthetic goals, more men are taking advantage of the benefits of cosmetic surgery. Dr. Herbstman understands the special techniques and considerations necessary when dealing with male patients, and makes them a top priority at Contemporary Plastic Surgery. Although the eyes are the focal point of the face for both men and women, men are framed differently, particularly in the brow and jaw line. Dr. Herbstman takes special care to understand gender differences in the face and avoid feminine features, so his male patients never overtly appear to have had work done. Men desire strong, chiseled definition of the neck and jaw line, making them appear fit, athletic, decisive, and masculine, and Dr. Herbstman is attuned to these desires.
Men have different concerns than women as they age. In their thirties and forties, a weak chin or a big nose can become a concern for men who are looking for a potential partner and want to project a more masculine appearance. The same can be said for newly divorced older men. Other men may feel self-conscious because of a heavy brow with deep glabellar furrows, small eyes, and skin eruptions that give the impression of being angry. Still others may simply feel that their older appearance is a disadvantage in the workplace. Whatever the concern, Dr. Herbstman will work with the patient to provide focused solutions to specific problems. Most women have a specific vision of how they want to look, while most men just want to look better. With Dr. Herbstman, male patients can effectively improve their appearance, confidence, and image with as little down-time as possible.

Skincare has never been a top priority for me. As is the case with most men, I have not been brought up to be conscious of my skin’s health. But at the age of 27, years of neglect have begun to show. In addition to natural changes in my skin’s appearance that come with age, such as a continuing increase of wrinkles and fine lines, it has become apparent to me that there are changes occurring on my face that I unfortunately cannot blame on age. Razor burn, oily/dry areas, occasional acne, and discoloration from sun-damage are all a consequence of my own neglect. A healthy diet and exercise undoubtedly do a great deal to promote healthy, youthful skin, but poor skin hygiene leads to a buildup of dead skin cells that when ignored, can wreak havoc on our skin. While women are culturally conditioned to use skincare products from a young age, men generally are not, and the buildup of dead skin cells that result cause us to age much more rapidly than our female counterparts. And why should that be the case? I believe I speak for most men when I say that I do not want to look like an old man by the time I reach my forties. And as I approach my thirties, I certainly don’t want to look any older than I already am. I simply want to look as healthy as I feel.
With that in mind, my first skin care treatment with licensed aesthetician Yelena Barsky was more necessary than I first imagined. I had no idea how many dead skin cells were choking my pores until they were gone! After an expert assessment of my individual skincare needs, Yelena began working her magic. The chemical peel was applied to my face and then removed before I even realized it. With no burning or discomfort, it was nothing like what I had imagined it would be. Both the words “chemical” and “peel” are very misleading. My skin just felt clean and refreshed, and much to my surprise, there was no redness! In addition to the peel, Yelena performed a microdermabrasion on my skin, which felt like a massage for my face! This helped her correct any unevenness in my skin, such as dull patches or dark spots. As someone who loves being out in the sun, this is a problem for my skin, but not a problem too big for Yelena. When I left her office, my skin looked completely evenly toned, and somehow, appeared to have less lines throughout. But the best part of my first skin care treatment with Yelena was the way my skin felt after I left. It was as though the skin on my face was able to breath for the first time in years. Since last seeing Yelena, I have not had a single blemish, or felt the oiliness and dullness I had somehow grown accustomed to. After now experiencing the benefits of proper skin care, I no longer think I can help but me mindful of the health of my skin.

Six weeks and counting to the Holidays, oh no! Oh yes, still plenty of time to Get Glossy.
Achieve that perfect glow with the Gloss Peel, something that you can find at Contemporary Plastic Surgery Skin Clinic in Central New Jersey. The Gloss Peel is Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) based and found only in physician’s office. This potent agent greatly improves the appearance of aging and sun damaged skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are refined to improve skin texture and decrease laxity and pore size. The Gloss Peel is a combination of TCA17%, Salycylic Acid 17% and Retinol 1%. The physical compounding characteristics of these acids allows for limited discomfort and cellular injury associated with physican strength peel solutions. The addition of Retinoids boosts the exfoliating effects of the peel solution, therefore, increasing the effectiveness of your treatment. TCA was never this sexy! And, you get to take home a beautiful kit consisting of a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser, emollient physical sunscreen, additional Retinoid treatment pads and the soothing Niacin (Vitamin B3) based moisturizer. The at home care kit accelerates the renewal of your skin, translating into comfort and little downtime. The Gloss Peel represents a new generation of multi-functional, non-wounding chemical peels (certainly not like Samantha from Sex in the City’s chemical peel episode).
Call today and schedule your event perfect look with Yelena at skinclinic@cosmeticsurgerynj.com or by calling 732-254-1919.

Women considering breast augmentation with breast implants often ask me about the best time of year for their procedure. They want to make sure that they have time to recover so they can enjoy the results of their enhanced appearance in summer’s revealing attire, from sleeveless tops and tanks to bikinis.
At my New Jersey plastic surgery practice, women often choose the spring months to have their enhancement procedure. Typically, by scheduling their surgery in early spring, they can fully heal before the warm weather season begins. For breast augmentation, I use advanced surgical techniques that both reduce recovery time and hide signs of scarring.
After this type of procedure, women usually experience some soreness for just a few days. I use the ON-Q® pain reduction system to minimize post-operative pain. Swelling after surgery typically requires several weeks to completely subside. For most women, any visible scars fade significantly within the first few months, and are almost unnoticeable after you are fully healed.
